When programs are created in schools giving opportunities to students, it is almost certain that children will be able to perform miracles. Such a miracle is developing at St. Demetrios Greek School in Jamaica, Queens, where a chamber music group was created with the the encouragement of principal, Dr. George Melikokis.
The young musicians are instructed by music teacher, Mr. Dooley, who plays numerous instruments and has managed to pass on his enthusiasm and love for music to the students.  "Today we have 24 violins, 4 violas and the children are learning different songs and giving recitals" stated Dr. Melikokis.
A recital was given on May 31st to an audience of about 150 people at the school's community center while another recital was given on June 7th at Barnes and Noble bookstore in Flushing, Queens, in a performance that included songs by distinguished Greek and foreign composers. Also participating in the recital was the schools children's choir.
