At the Pan Cretan Association of America’s 41st convention, held in Heraklion, Crete, the President of the Hellenic Republic, Karolos Papoulias, was presented with the Venizelos Award. at a ceremony on Saturday evening, for his contribution to expatriate Hellenism. Papoulias expressed great joy being in Crete once again and thanked the Association for the honour bestowed on him. He also noted that the late statesman Eleftherios Venizelos, after whom the award is named, had been one of the major figures of modern-day Hellenism, and had made his mark on the country's course. In addition, the Greek president congratulated the Association for its dynamic and impressive work in the United States.
