In Heraklio, Crete, for the 41st congress of the Pan-Cretan Association of America on the weekend, Foreign minister Dora Bakoyannis said it was a great pleasure and joy for Crete to host its “expatriate brothers, the Cretans of America”. She praised their successes and said they had contributed greatly, not only to their new country, but also to Hellenism and Greece’s national issues, as well as to Crete. In particular, she praised their assistance in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on New York, saying that the man who undertook the handling of the major problem was a Cretan, a person who honoured both Greece and Crete.
