"One of the best meetings ever organised by the Council for Hellenes Abroad (CHA) Oceania," was how the CHA coordinator, George Angelopoulos, described the event that took place in Melbourne last Sunday. The Greek-Australian meeting was held within the framework of the CHA's regular contacts with its member organisations and Greek-Australians in general.
Similar meetings have been held previously in Perth, Adelaide and Sydney. "At the Melbourne meeting, special emphasis was given to the Panhellenic Athletic Games that the city will host next year," said Angelopoulos. "It was decided to organise them in March 2009, in cooperation with the Antipodes Festival, which is an initiative taken by the Melbourne community of Greek-Australians. The setting up of a cultural centre was also discussed. Angelopoulos said the number of people attending the meeting and their active participation was very impressive.
