PM briefs president on Turkey visit

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias, Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis said he briefed the president on his recent visit to Turkey, adding that Greece steadfastly supports Turkey's European course, although the neighbouring country is obliged to take steps within the framework of EU principles and reforms it has accepted.

Tsiartsionis meets with Greek-Australian students

The chairman of parliament’s Special Standing Committee for Greeks Living Abroad, Nikos Tsiartsionis recently met with Greek-Australian students visiting Greece within a special Athens University program. Tsiartsionis welcomed the young visitors and conveyed to them greetings from the Speaker of the House, Dimitris Sioufas, as well as his strong interest in Greeks living abroad.

The Greek who “photographed” solar typhoons

Greek scientist Angelos Vourlidas – who was the first person in the world to record solar typhoons - was received yesterday by the Dean of Thessaloniki’s Aristoteleio University, Anastasios Manthos, who congratulated the graduate of the university’s Physics Department on his global discovery.

Merchant Marine minister to visit New York

Merchant Marine and Island Policy Minister George Voulgarakis is scheduled to make a working visit to New York from February 4 to 8. Within the context of his visit, the minister will meet with Greek shipowners in New York, and will be the keynote speaker at an international conference on the shipping industry, organized by the Hellenic American Chamber for Tuesday, February 5.

Flights from Melbourne to Greece?

It is hoped that flights from Melbourne to Greece will soon be a reality, as planned by the Australian airline company, Jetstar, a subsidiary of Qantas.
