In a letter to the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, Russian MP and Council for Hellenes Abroad (CHA) coordinator for the region of former Soviet Union countries, Ivan Savvidis, has expressed his heartfelt condolences for the death of Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Christodoulos, describing him as “a distinguished man, who rightly was the spiritual leader of the Greek nation”. “The death of Archbishop Christodoulos is a great loss, not only for Greece, but also for Hellenism worldwide,” noted Savvidis in his letter. “His contribution to the spiritual development of our fellow citizens, as well as his actions to strengthen inter-religious relations, were invaluable, as was his devotion to the Orthodox Church and his homeland”.
