A briefing on the Cyprus issue was made by the Director of the Cyprus foreign ministry Division of Overseas and Repatriated Cypriots Ambassador Charalambos Ioannidis who conveyed the sincere gratitude of the Cypriot government for the firm support and solidarity of the Greek government, Parliament, SAE and all the Greeks to the efforts aimed at reaching a fair solution to the Cyprus issue.
On his part, PSEKA President Philip Christopher referred to the active participation of POMAK and PSEKA to the goals and actions of SAE and expressed the deep appreciation and gratitude of the two major organizations for the firm and continuous support of SAE to Cyprus' struggle for vindication. He also referred to PSEKA's actions and support to all Greek national issues such as, the Cyprus issue, the FYROM name issue and the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Ioannidis invited the SAE Board to visit Cyprus on the occasion of the 16th World Congress of World Federation of Overseas Cypriots (POMAK) and International Coordinating Committee "Justice for Cyprus" (PSEKA) to take place on August 24-28, 2009.
The SAE Board unanimously approved the following resolution on the Cyprus issue:
"SAE supports the current, under the UN auspices held negotiation process between Cyprus Republic President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, aimed at a fair and viable solution to the Cyprus issue and the reunification of Cyprus without pressuring timetables and arbitration. The agreement that will be reached will have to be based to the evolution of the Cyprus Republic into a Bi-zonal, Bi-communal Federation with a single sovereignty, international legal entity and nationality based on the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and the EU principles and standards."
