"Joint action to construct a safer world" is what US President Barack Obama has called for in a letter replying to Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis' congratulatory letter sent after Obama's election. In the letter, the American president expresses the conviction that Greece and the United States can cooperate in a spirit of peace and friendship for the building of a safer world during the next four years of his term.
Obama also sent a letter to main opposition Pasok leader George Papandreou, through the US ambassador in Athens, Daniel Speckhard, saying - among other things - that he looks forward to a close collaboration with Greece to tackle the region's problems and to deal with global challenges.
