Thousands of Greek-Americans turned out on Sunday in New York, ignoring the cold, to march in Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, in honour of the 187th anniversary of the Greek Revolution against Turkish rule. The marchers included 90 expatriate Greek organisations, communities, associations, federations, schools and student bodies, accompanied by 20 philharmonic bands.
In San Francisco, the Greek Independence Day was honoured by events held in the Bay area, with the participation of hundreds of Greek-American communities, and many city officials. More than 2,000 Greek-Americans with 15 floats took part in a similar parade in Tarpon Springs, Florida, in a lavish event attended by both Greek and American officials.
