The “ring” to Giannoulias
Συντάχθηκε απο τον/την Μπάμπης Παπαδάκης
Any day now, Greek-American Alexi Giannoulias - who was in Athens last week - is expected to announce his intention to seek the seat left by Barack Obama in the Senate. In a statement made to the Greek daily newspaper, "Eleftheros Typos", the Illinois State Treasurer said that he was very seriously examining the possibility, and has received "encouraging messages". He added that the seat had historic importance, because it once belonged to the current US president and because of sentimental ties.
Giannoulias was raised in Chicago, the son of Greek immigrants. He serves on the board of directors of the Community Banker's Association of Illinois Legislative Committee, the South Side/Wabash YMCA, and the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce. Giannoulias also founded and chairs the AG Foundation, a not-for-profit charity that donates money to treat child-related illnesses, curb poverty and assist disaster relief organizations.
