The first Greek-language school will be inaugurated in Bucharest on September 15, implementing part of a memorandum signed in February 2008 between the Greek education ministry and the Greek parents and guardians association of Bucharest. Twenty five schoolchildren will attend morning classes while 15-20 students (Greek origin children over the age of 7) will be taught the Greek language in the afternoon. The Greek state has agreed to staff the “Athena” school with teachers and supply the textbooks. According to a Greek embassy official in Bucharest, the prospect of a Greek language school in the Romanian capital will act as a further attraction for Greek entrepreneurs and professionals based in the city.
