    The Greek population in Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) has reportedly decreased by 20% in the past 8 years, according to information of the federated state’s statistical service that was processed by I. Stergopoulos. The Greek population in the area had been reported at 109, 312 in 2001, however in the latest statistical report that number has fallen to 88, 307. The number of males is at 47, 584 and females at 40, 723.

    Trikala born Father Theodoros Papanikolaou has spent his life to serve the Greeks in the region of Bordeaux, France and to strengthen and support Greek-French friendship. A few months ago, the mayor of Agen (a municipality in Bordeaux) warded Father Papanikolaou with the Giold Medal, in recognition for his 20 years of service in cementing and developing and nurturing this friendship.

    Jurors in Australia found 27 year old, Greek-Australian, Marios Karageorgis innocent of killing 26 year old Bradley Hoaksworh, during an argument. According to trial proceedings, the incident took palce when Mario saw his wife surrounded by a tema of men, among them, one holding a knife.

    George N. Katsakiores, an active W.H.I.A member and resident of Derry, NH died earlier this week. Mr. Katsakiores was born in Derry on December 11, 1924, son of the late Nicholas and Agareteo (Siatrevinis) Katsakiores. He was a US Army WWII veteran and a member of the VFW Post 1617 and the American Legion Post 9 both of Derry. He owned and operated White’s Lunch in Derry for 42 years.

Union of Andriotes’ New Year cake cutting

Athens – The Board of the Union of Andriotes recently cake their New Year cake at a ceremony held in the ballroom of the Grande Bretagne Hotel, followed by the presentation of awards for good deeds. The president, Antonis Diapoulis and the board members greeted the distinguished guests.

The event was honoured with the presence of His Reverence the Metropolitan Bishop of Syros-Tinos-Andros-Kea-Milos-Mykonos, Dorotheos II, who blessed the cake. The other honoured guests included Admiral Constantine Gionis, the Honorary Consul of Poland, Michael Kokkinis, as well as representatives of the local government and prominent bodies from Andros island.
