| Yet another expatriate Greek has reached a high position in his country of residence. Vladimir Kaisev was elected prime minister in the Republic of Karachaevo-Cherkessia in the Russian Federation in the Caucasus. The 54-year-old ethnic Greek was proposed by the new president of the Republic, Boris Ebzeyev.
Kaisev was born in the village of Suvorovskaya and is president of the "Pontos" international association of expatriate Greek organisations from the former Soviet Union. In his first statements to the local parliament, Kaisev pledged to dedicate his efforts to advancing Karachaevo- Cherkessia into an economically competitive republic, from the its present status as a country with a fiscal deficit.
