Meimarakis Grand Marshall in NY

Defence Minister, Vangelis Meimarakis has been selected by the Federation of Hellenic Societies of NY to be Grand Marshall of the Greek Parade on Fifth Avenue as announced by federation president, Dimitris Kalamaras.
 
Grand Marshalls along with Mr. Meimarakis will be, Illinios State Treasurer, Alexi Giannoulias and singer of Greek descent, Tony Orlando.
 
Once again this year, The Presidential Guard Evzones will parade on Fifth Avenue           on April 23rd together with the Military Philarmonic Orchestra and a delegation from the Hellenic Parliament.
 
In addition, according to the Consul General of Cyprus, Andreas Panagiotou, a delegation from Cypriot Parliament headed by the President of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Averof Neofytou will attend the Greek Independence Day parade and parallel events.
 
On the eve of the parade, honorary distinctions will be awarded to former Illionois State Treasurer, Aris Melissaratos, and Ftaher Charalambos Stefanopoulos while during another event, Gianna Despotopoulou, president of the 2011 Special Olympics Organizing Committee will be the honored person.
