Thesssaloniki prefect Panayiotis Psomiades sent a letter to French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, inviting Mr. Sarkozy to visit Thessaloniki during an upcoming visit to Greece. Mr. Psomiades hailed the Greek background of the French President and expressed his admiration over the historic course of Sarkozy's family. In the meantime, the launch of a book on French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his ties with the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki took place on Monday evening, hosted by the Kastaniotis publishing house.
The book "I, the grandson of a Greek - Nicolas Sarkozy's Thessaloniki", is written by George Anastasiadis, Leon Nar and Christos Raptis.
The launch was attended by Tourism Development Minister Aris Spiliotopoulos, who pointed out that Sarkozy is a self-made and younger generation politician. He described him as visionary, spirited and charismatic, introducing a new model of democratic leader who dares to transcend dividing lines.
Speaking at the book launch, Greek MPs referred to Sarkozy's ties with Thessaloniki, given that his mother was born to the Mallah family, one of the oldest Jewish families of the city.
