Greek-Austrian designer Marios Schwab has won the Swiss Textiles Award for 2007.
In an interview with the daily newspaper, "Kathimerini", 30-year-old Schwab - who was born and raised in Athens - has not concealed his delight about the prize, but noted that "if they give you too much, you can lose your creativity, and I like creativity that comes spontaneously". For Schwab, the award has yet another positive aspect, as it highlights Greece - his mother's country - abroad. The 100,000-euro prize is considered to contribute decisively to efforts by young designers to promote their names in the international fashion world.
