Greek-Americans to Meet Biden. Clinton Sees Talat, Kyprianou
Συντάχθηκε απο τον/την Μπάμπης Παπαδάκης
Prominent Greek Americans will have a meeting with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, to follow on the issues of concern to the community, including U.S. policy on Cyprus, Turkey, and the name dispute between Greece and FYROM. President of PSEKA Philip Christopher, speaking at an event at the Pancyprian Lounge in Astoria, in honor of former U.S. National Soccer team coach, Alketas Panagoulias, told the audience that the meeting will take place on April 22.
Christopher invited everyone to be optimistic about the Obama administration policies on our issues and not to get discouraged by the visit of the U.S. President in Turkey.
"The fact that he spoke positively on Cyprus, the religious freedoms of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, including the reopening oh Halki, is very encouraging and due to our efforts".
Christopher invited all Greek Americans to stay united and intensify their efforts towards Congress and the new US administration.
Meanwhile Greek American community leaders have once again protested to the U.S. government the breaking of a promise to receive first Foreign Minister Kyprianou in Washington. In response to this, the US have set out the difficulties in the schedule because of public holidays and the so-called elections in the northern Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus on April 19.
A US State Department official told Greek News that the United States supports Cypriot-led negotiations under the auspices of the UN Secretary General's Good Offices Mission in pursuit of a just and lasting settlement that reunifies Cyprus into a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation. Answering a question, he said that "to support those efforts, the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Republic of Cyprus Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou on April 5 in Prague, and plans to see him again on April 20 in Washington".
