Enterpreneur George Pappas dies

Expatriate Greek businessman and honorary vice-consul of Greece, George Pappas passed away and was buried in Salzburg, Austria. The son of physician, Zacharias Pappas from Ioannina, George Pappas was born in Hungary in 1928 and migrated with his family to Salzburg after World War II, wher with his late brother, he founded the first automobile retail business in 1948.

According to the Athens News Agency, the business over the years expanded into one of the biggest automobile import companies in Austria which also diversified its business dealings in 1965 adding building materials thus skyrocketing Pappas to 7th place on the list of the 100 most significant financial forces in Austria.

George Pappas, who retired in 2005, was characterized by the majority of those who knew him, by his humbleness and love for Greece. Over the past few years, his daughter Katerini, is honorary Consul General of Greece.
