The book, “Diggers and Greeks” by expatriate historian, Dr. Maria Hill was presented in Canberra giving a greater push to the call for the greatest and more justifiably sight recognition for the Australian veterans that participated in the military operations in Greece during WWII.
A years long effort by Greek-Australian officials s come to a positive end as the first Greek Orthodox Church built in Australia, and the southern hemisphere, has been declared a historical monument and will now be included in the New South Wales Heritage Council.
Australian television viewers submitted their own personal preferences, differentiating themselves from European viewers with respect to the Eurovision Song Contest that was broadcast on Australia’s multicultural television channel SBS.
“Our aim is to invest in language, history and culture, these are the central elements around which the educational part of the Diaspora will be developed – and we will proceed to a restructuring of the Diaspora educational system.
A special invitation addressed to Hellenes abroad, to support the country by choosing Greece for their holidays this summer, will be issued by the Ministry of Culture.

Κατηγορούμενος ομογενής για κλοπή δαχτυλιδιού αξίας 1 εκ.
Ένας 30χρονος Αυστραλός πολίτης, ελληνικής καταγωγής, οδηγήθηκε σήμερα ενώπιον δικαστηρίου της Μελβούρνης, όπου του απαγγέλθηκαν κατηγορίες για την κλοπή ενός δακτυλιδιού αξίας ενός εκατομμυρίου δολαρίων.
Πρόκειται για τον 30χρονο Γιώργο Γεωργίου, πρώην κάτοικο Μελβούρνης, που κατηγορείται ότι έκλεψε το πολύτιμο δακτυλίδι τον περασμένο Μάρτιο από το κοσμηματοπωλείο «Hardy Brothers Jewellers» στο κέντρο της Μελβούρνης.
Σύμφωνα με την αστυνομία μετά την κλοπή ο Γεωργίου διέφυγε στην Ταϊλάνδη όπου συνελήφθη και εκδόθηκε στην Αυστραλία για να δικαστεί. Ο Γεωργίου προφυλακίστηκε έως τις 2 Σεπτεμβρίου που καθορίστηκε να γίνει η δίκη του. Από την Ταϊλάνδη προσπάθησε να αποφύγει την έκδοσή του χωρίς επιτυχία.
