Fordham University will present an honorary degree to His All Holiness Bartholomew, Archbishop of Constantinople, New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch, in a ceremony today, October 27. The Ecumenical Patriarch will receive a doctorate of laws, honoris causa, at a ceremony to be held at the University Church on Fordham’s Rose Hill campus.
Visiting the United States until November 5, Patriarch Bartholomew is currently in New York City, where he will celebrate several liturgies before receiving an honorary doctorate from Fordham.
In addition to the honorary doctorate, the Ecumenical Patriarch will receive a rose developed in his honour when he meets with students at a private reception. The rose, named "Bartholomew," was developed by noted horticulturist Robert Neil Rippetoe, using some of the latest advances in rose breeding science. It will be registered under the name Bartholemew with the American Rose Society.
