Greeks in Bishkek are in good health, but fear of a possible civil war

Greeks in Bishkek are in good health, but fear of a possible civil war“All 124 Greeks who reside in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, are in good healt” stated to ANA – MPA the president of the Greek Community of Kyrgyzstan, Ms. Olga Kuprianova.
At least 75 people have lost their lives and hundreds have been injured, according to the latest report from country’s Ministry of Health, during the clashes between the police and protesters in Bishkek.
Ms. Kuprianova said that the Greeks did not take any of the opposing sides and fear the possibility of civil war in the country.
Across the territory of Kyrgyzstan there are around 1.000 residents of Greek origin, whilst before 1991 (when the mass repatriation in Greece started), only in the capital, formerly Frunze, hosted more than 3.000 Greeks.
In a few days, Olga Kuprianova will visit Thessaloniki, so as to receive an award for her contribution towards the regeneration of the Hellenic Diaspora in Kyrgyzstan, on the occasion of the “Women of the Greek Diaspora Day”, which is organized by the Prefecture of Thessaloniki in collaboration with the World Council of Hellenes Abroad for the third consecutive year.
