  • Democrats Abroad Greece approved as country committee

    The Democrats Abroad organisation has approved the re-founding of the Democrats Abroad Greece (DAGR) as a country committee, according to a relevant press release.     Founded in 1964, Democrats Abroad is the official overseas branch of America's Democratic Party, which represents Americans living abroad. The Greek chapter had an active committee from 1986 until 2008.

Stories from prisons, torments and torturers throwing prisoners alive out of airplanes are presented in the documentary “The List of Silence”, directed by Nikos Vezyrgiannis and based on Pavlos Nerantzis’s research and screenplay. After long research, the world premiere of the documentary - based on an issue, which still is an “open wound” for the world - will be presented at the Documentary Festival of Thessaloniki.

    Prime Minister George Papandreou had an important meeting earlier this week, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, with a group of 20 prominent Greek American to discuss the current financial crisis in Greece and ways to help the motherland to tackle the situation. Greek American business leaders offered promises for investments, along with advice on how to make investing in Greece more attractive and friendly. Their advice included the need for reforms to cut red tape and corruption and create a business friendly environment with increased productivity.

  • “National Geographic” presents Mount Athos

    Washington – More than 400 people gathered on February 4 in Washington D.C. for the opening reception of a historical photographic exhibit about Mount Athos presented by “National Geographic”, titled: “Called to the Holy Mountain: Mount Athos,” according to Dr. Zoe Kosmidou, Minister Counselor of Cultural Affairs for the Embassy of Greece and U.S.A. Representative for the Hellenic Foundation for Culture.

"Η ΦΩΝΗ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΑΣ"

Το πρώτο κρατικό ραδιόφωνο της Ελλάδας, ο "ΡΑΔΙΟΦΩΝΙΚΟΣ ΣΤΑΘΜΟΣ ΑΘΗΝΩΝ", εγκαινιάσθηκε την άνοιξη του 1938, με πομπό ισχύος 15 kw στο προάστιο των Λιοσίων και ραδιοθαλάμους στο Ζάππειο Μέγαρο.

Η πρώτη προσπάθεια ραδιοσταθμού βραχέων κυμάτων έγινε αμέσως μετά την έκρηξη του Ελληνοϊταλικού πολέμου τον Οκτώβριο 1940. Aπό μικρό πομπό στο κέντρο των Αθηνών μεταδίδονταν, προς το Μέτωπο και τις βαλκανικές χώρες, εκπομπές του Ραδιοφωνικού Σταθμού Αθηνών. Ιδιαίτερο πρόγραμμα Βραχέων Κυμάτων δημιουργήθηκε μετά την γερμανοϊταλική κατοχή, το 1947: από πομπό ισχύος 7,5 kw άρχισαν καθημερινές μεταδόσεις προς Κύπρο, Αίγυπτο, Τουρκία, Βαλκάνια, Σοβ. Ένωση και 4 εκπομπών προς τους Έλληνες ναυτιλλόμενους.

Τα καθημερινά δελτία ειδήσεων μεταδίδονταν σε 12 ξένες γλώσσες (ΑΡΑΒΙΚΑ, ΓΕΡΜΑΝΙΚΑ, ΡΩΣΙΚΑ, ΙΣΠΑΝΙΚΑ, ΡΟΥΜΑΝΙΚΑ, ΤΟΥΡΚΙΚΑ, ΣΕΡΒΟΚΡΟΑΤΙΚΑ, ΒΟΥΛΓΑΡΙΚΑ, ΑΛΒΑΝΙΚΑ, ΓΑΛΛΙΚΑ, ΠΟΛΩΝΙΚΑ, ΑΓΓΛΙΚΑ) και μια φορά την εβδομάδα στα αραβικά. Μεταδιδόταν, επίσης, ποικίλο μουσικό πρόγραμμα.
Το κέντρο εκπομπής βραχέων κυμάτων άρχισε το 1972 από δύο πομπούς 110 kw και στην Αυλίδα - 37 χλμ. ΒΑ των Αθηνών - με κεραίες κατευθυνόμενες προς τις πέντε ηπείρους.

Το 1975, μετά την πτώση της στρατιωτικής δικτατορίας, το πρόγραμμα Βραχέων Κυμάτων ονομάστηκε "Η ΦΩΝΗ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΑΣ", υπαγόμενο στην τότε Διεύθυνση Ειδήσεων Ραδιοφωνίας. Σχεδόν 15 χρόνια αργότερα, με την θέσπιση και εφαρμογή του Ενιαίου φορέα της ΕΡΤ, αυτονομήθηκε ως "Πέμπτο Πρόγραμμα - Η ΦΩΝΗ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΑΣ", στην Γενική Διεύθυνση της ΕΡΑ.
